The REME Institution

The REME Institution is ‘the Officers’ club’ of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, it was established shortly after the end of the war with the main objects od providing means whereby those who served together in war might continue their friendships in peace.  The aims of the REME Institution in the current day are to;

  • encourage esprit-de-corps and comradeship between officers of the Corps both serving and retired;
  • to provide services to member such as the provision of Corps publications;
  • to publish an annual officers’ list.

The REME Institution Beating Retreat Cocktail Party and Buffet Supper

Following on from the success of the combined 2016 event, the REME Institution Beating the Retreat and Buffet Supper will again be held at The Princess Marina Officers’ Mess, Lyneham, on Thursday 15 June 2017 from 1830 to 2200 hrs. On conclusion of the Beating the Retreat, supper will be served in the Officers’ Mess. Attendance is open to regular, reserve and retired officers who are members of the REME Institution and their guests. Each member may apply for two tickets (member plus partner) at £20 each and may also apply for additional tickets for additional personal guests at £25 each. If the event is oversubscribed, priority will be given to members of the Institution and their first guest. The dress is lounge suits or equivalent.

Accommodation. There may be an extremely limited number of available bed spaces (for which there will be an additional charge) in the mess and there is no guarantee that we will be able to provide accommodation for all who request it. We will endeavour to confirm accommodation allocations by 20 May 2017 to allow time for those unable to obtain Mess accommodation to make alternative arrangements or to withdraw from the event. Payment for accommodation and breakfast will be included in your mess bill for serving officers or should be settled prior to departure from Lyneham for retired officers.

REME75 Institution London Reception

The London Reception 2017 is open to all members of the REME Institution with the overall capacity limited to 500 attendees. It is anticipated that the event will be oversubscribed so applications for attendance are limited to a maximum of 2 places per REME Institution member (one for the member plus one guest). REME serving officers or retired officers who are not Institution members will be required to join the Institution to participate in the attendance ballot.

The event will be take the form of a drinks reception with each attendee required to offset the cost to the REME Institution through a donation of £32.50 per person. Please note that there will no food served at the event. Attendees will be selected by intelligent ballot to ensure that the allocation of places represents a spread across ranks and units, serving and retired. Every attendance application received will be entered in to the ballot with those who are initially unsuccessful being placed in order on a reserve list.

The ballot will take place before Fri 14 Jul 17 with successful applicants being notified by Fri 21 Jul 17.

REME75 Institution Ball

To celebrate the 75th Birthday of the Corps, a REME Institution Ball will be held at The Princess Marina Officers’ Mess, Lyneham, on Saturday 22 July 2017; 1900 – 0100 hrs. Attendance is open to regular, reserve and retired officers (who are members of the REME Institution) and their guests. Each member may apply for two tickets at £60 each, additional tickets may go on sale at a later date. Should the event be oversubscribed, priority will be given to members of the Institution and their first guest. The dress is 1940s’ attire or black tie.

All serving REME Officers are members of the REME Institution as long as they donate via the Day’s Pay Giving Scheme.

For retired members a £30 donation is requested.  The donation is taken via direct debit once per year.
